Its the Marriage Season!!
Most of the people in my age group now have got married, or setting out their paths for marriage or atleast thinking of marriage.. and I LOVE being in this stage.. Speaking to any of my girlfriends gets to the one and only topic... MARRIAGE.. whose getting married.. to whom.. when.. before and after whose marriage.. we're hereby becoming the ideal kitty-party material.. all the gossip about others personal lives.. wowwiieee!! could it get any better.. One of my friends got her relationship "The Parental Approval".. and though our tiny group of 4 girlfriends is in the extreme corners of Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Nepal.. we all had a (virtual) mini kitty party for this news.. (Guys would really not understand the girls reaction to her friends marriage.. actually thank god for that! Having to tell all this for no reaction from a guy is quite frustrating.. speakin outta experience here!) And this is just the initial phase.. unfortunately most of the others whose marriages I am desperately waiting to attend have taken a time-out for upto 2 years.. but through it all I ve gotten more and more interested in marriages!! (read other's marriages) The whole idea of THE BIG FAT INDIAN WEDDING totally makes sense to me now :) the happiness.. the reunion.. the noise.. the music.. the rituals.. the responsibilty.. the happy couple.. (yeah it does come before everything eles right :) ) the flaunt of wealth (duhh.. if anyone thinks tat doesnt happen.. tch tch tch u ve never been to a shaadi or a kalyaanam) getting all dressed up.. and ofcourse shopping without budget constraints.. oft used dialogue - "Maaaa!! how many times ll XYZ get married!!! " Right now there are around 15 marriages that I am desperately waiting for (yeah i did count it) and this 15 is just of the girl friends.. Whatever be it in a guy-friends shaadi ur still a guest.. but these 15 shaadis are in the compulsory attendance category and the best part is these 15 are gonna happen anywhere between 2011-2013. So very looking forward to each one of these... for the fun, frolic, responsibility and above all the satisfied smile of "My friend is now with her Mr. Right" AWESOME.. come 2011 Ill have all my super grand saaris ready, all my gifting skills polished to attend shaadis one after the other :)
Shouldn't the suitability and ideal-ness of the groom take a more important role to the miscellaneous stuff?!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your friends are getting married for the bling and the swag :)
@Anonymous.. There wouldnt even be a marriage if the groom wasn't ideal or suitable.. have a strong feeling ur a guy else u would ve thought the obvious smart way of a girl :)
ReplyDeleteP.S: on a serious note.. yup all of it is totally given importance.. but the "bling and the swag" do have their importance in a girls life..
hey u are right actually though i would disagree to the point that all of our conversations head towards the marriage topic :-) and btw guys get really excited abt their marriages as well and their friends too though they dont talk abt it much..was speaking to a friend today and u should have seen his excitement (getting married in jan)..truly a friend's marriage is a very exciting and important day in ones life..god! i am waiting to see u girls get married! :-)
