Girls do have fun :)
This one s out of one of the silliest n most hilarious memories of mine.. so here goes.. Date - 5-09-2003 (Teachers day at school); Location - from school to Udayam Theatre to home; Movie- BOYS; Characters- Kavitha (Protagonist ha ha ha), Deeps, Bhava, Rita, n a 5th person who was it!! cant recall.., My elder sis Keerthi and her freinds and the NEW COLLEGE guys!! Speciality of recollection- Well thats what the whole blog is about.
So as part of our Teachers day celebrations at school it was mandatory for the 12th standard girls to come in a saree.. that in itself is a big excuse to write to blog on it.. Sarees happen to be supremely uncomfortable attires in the first few times ur wearing them. and to celebrate our 12th standard Special Day (we really dint quite care what day it was.. we jus needed a reason to celebrate!!) we girls decided to watch a nice movie the very same day in the very same attire.. theatre of choice being Udayam.. Not exactly a great choice for a group of "peter" girls:) but yup if the saree was "strike 1" for our outting Udayam was definitely "Strike 2" To add on to it the 'Hep' movie at that time was Boys.. Well if u know about it u ll realise that it sure is a fun movie.. but in a saree and in Udayam.. Duh!! stupidity!!Strike 2.5.. to add on to Saree, Udayam n Boys.. location of our seats.. Right ahead of New College guys.. any Chennaiite will understand the dire situation this was.. and for any non-chennaiite well imagine the kinda college that all the guys in ur city who might very well be serious about life n all.. but with time have got the tag of being a bit on the lower side of being gentlemanly.. the rest is upto your comprehension.. and Udayam.. exactly the kinda theatre where guys like that go!! n Boys.. exactly the kinda movie that guys like that ENJOY.. now i think I ve made clear the situation :)
So at the very beginning me the over-enthusiastic me saw my sis there 4 rows away n gave the idiotic reaction of shouting out - "KEEERRTTHHIII HIIIII"" to which the New college guys not only acknowledge who Keerthi was but also told their own Hi's to her.. My sis comfortably ignored them 5 rows behind her.. but duh.. I was right there with my frds who were by now glaring at me like- we already have enough attention here.. we dont want anymore of it!!!- so that meant we girls sunk into our seats a bit.. with the saaree around us like the bharatiya Naaris that we are :)Strike 2.75 Then started the movie.. and the 5 of us tried to make our presence equivalent to absence and every "SUPER" scene made us sink more n more into our seats..Strike 2.8,2.85,2.9!!The movie eventually came to an end.. and when we came outta the theatre we guys jus wanted to get outta that area as soon as we could.. so we scampered.. literally.. in our sarees!! and by the time we caught our breath we realised we were too close to take an auto but toooo far to walk it... but as luck will have it.. We did have to walk it.. and yupp that was Strike 3 cos it was Heels n Saree.. bad combo for a walk!!
one hell of an experience... that still figures in our "cool things we did in school list" goin to a very sidey theatre in a saree :) n now our outside reaction to it is:its no big deal.. we handled it.. and our inside reaction.. To hell with handling it.. we dint know wat to handle.. our sarees... the crappy theatre.. sidey movie.. or wierder guys ard us.. in all the reaction to it is Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :) we atleast got comfortable with our sarees :) cheers!!!

ReplyDeleteComing to the blog, Kavi, correction, the 5th Person was Shubham, remember !! He walked us to the theatre or hot chips ( dont remember that exactly)..
The guy who scared the bejesus out of us!! The points he kept iterating were
1. Wrong movie
2. Wrong theatre
3. Wrong day ( It was a friday, and also one week after the movie's release !!)
4. Wrong Wrong attire
5. Wrong company ( You see, he kept saying, we needed boys to SAVE us poor girls from danger! but hey, we did survive, dint we ?? wink wink )
Anyway, KaVi, JAI HO for bloggin this one.. this is one thing we are certainly telling our grandchildren ( Yes, we too will get old someday!!) Helluva'n experience !! :-)

ReplyDeletekavi, +2 and a saree :))
ReplyDeletei think i shall laugh when i imagine u in the situation.
inda udayam theatre enge irikku?
chennaila nan paakaadu theatre onnooo irukkaa?
chennaila naan mudalla mudalla bombay paathhaan!
i went there to one Jyothi theatre in st.thomas mount along with a marathi friend and we had to stand in the theatre to watch that movie on the very first day of its release. as i was new to tamilnadu then, my marathi friend was my translator to that movie! and imagine how it would be :))
i was shunting him to translate every dialogue to me. he never came to see a tamil movie along with me afterwards.
ofcourse, we went to movies of all other languages but not to tamil movies :))
satyam theatres used to show one telugu movie always. we enjoyed many telugu movies as well in chennai.
and i paid more to him by translating dialogues of many telugu movies.
but kavi, being a finance mangagement girl, u can use all decimal numbers with an accuracy of ten power minus three, but u can learn more numbers after 3.
:))
good going
